The origin of this charming label lies in a few Gloucester Old Spots from 2007. Winemaker Steve Grimley, is the keeper of the exponentially reproducing troupe of the swine that gave us the 16 Little Black Pigs label. Their enthusiasm to supply him with top-quality meat is matched only by his drive to supply us with great wine – like this one. With exuberantly fresh citrus fruit at its heart, crunchy acidity and long, lively finish.
Becoming South Eastern Australia’s most popular single varietal wine, the 16 Little Black Pigs Shiraz is bursting with juicy fruit flavours. Concentrated black fruit, balanced with liquorice and clove spice, makes it the perfect partner for robust foods like a burger or spag bol.
Not only is Steve Grimley a very fine winemaker, but he also breeds pigs. Well, rather he holds them in a field and they do the rest. Things have spiralled since his first two pairs, and the population are threatening to over-run the vines, now being in the fourth generation (the vines that is). This delicious rosé bears the second generation and goes a long way to provide a perfect, rose-petal and strawberry-scented pink, reminiscent of summertime.
