About Sett
The SETT Story
The team at SETT is passionate about protecting both our skin and the oceans - naturally. Founded in 2018 by an avid surfer, the company remains proud of its surfing heritage and creates mineral sunscreens that not only provide great protection from the sun but don’t harm the oceans. Plus, they feel and smell great, rub in smoothly and don’t leave a heavy white cast on the skin. By using 100% mineral UV filters in their sunscreens, SETT products are completely reef and ocean safe as well as kind to sensitive skin. What’s not to love??
Our values
At SETT we produce natural mineral sunscreens and skin protection products to protect our skin and the environment as naturally as possible. Our sunscreens are 100% mineral, and we shun chemicals which harm ocean life and irritate sensitive skin. We also use only non-nano minerals which won’t sink into the deeper layers of your skin. We’ve worked hard to create a formula which rubs into the skin virtually clear, leaving no sticky residue or white streaks.
Know the difference between chemical and mineral sunscreens and why mineral is better?
Chemical sunscreens sink into the skin to work, and the chemical UV filters are what harms coral reefs and aquatic life and cause skin irritation. The countries/regions that currently have full or partial chemical sunscreen bans are Mexico, the USA (Hawaii, Key West, U.S. Virgin Islands), Bonaire, Aruba, and Palau. Why?
Here’s a brief summary of the harm caused by the main chemical UV filters:
Oxybenzone Also known as Benzophenone-3, it is known to cause allergic skin reactions. It acts like estrogen in the body, disrupting natural hormone levels. It also acts as a bleaching agent in the water hence its danger to coral reefs.
Avobenzone Similar to oxybenzone with skin irritation and rashes and is another hormone disruptor. It also becomes toxic when in chlorine leading to problems with the liver and kidneys.
Octinoxate Also known as Octylmethoxycinnamate. Mimics estrogen (what is it with these chemicals and our hormones!!) and can disrupt the function of the thyroid. Has also been linked to breast cancer and problems with the reproductive system.
Octocrylene This chemical has been found to degrade into benzophenone and is suspected of being carcinogenic and endocrine disrupting.
Homosalate This chemical is often mixed with avobenzone to allow the sunscreen to absorb more quickly. It is another hormone disruptor affecting estrogen, androgen and progesterone.
Octisalate Slightly less of a bad guy. Octisalate has still been linked to skin allergies and may have affects on the endocrine system (hormones again!!)
Mineral sunscreens however create a protective layer on top of the skin to deflect the sun’s rays away without sinking into the skin. SETT sunscreens don’t use nano particles which guarantees that the active ingredients won’t end up in your blood stream. They don’t harm the natural world and are kind to all skin types including sensitive skin and kids. They protect skin and the oceans, naturally – now that’s a reason to switch!
Our Products
Our product range includes SPF50 and SPF30 water resistant sunscreens for the whole body and a lighter everyday SPF30 sunscreen designed for days when you’re out and about but not in the water. A luscious SPF20 Lip Balm completes the sun protection range.
SPF50 is available in large bulk 5 litre containers, 100ml tubes, 100ml pouches and 100ml aluminium bottles.
SPF30 is available in 200ml tubes (water resistant and Everyday)
We’ve also developed a natural skin cream called SETT ACTIVE. Its all-natural formula helps prevent painful chafing rash and soothes skin that has chafed. It’s the daily ritual to keep your skin in great condition and a must-have for surfers, cyclists, runners and anyone who suffers from chafing. Think chub rub and anti chafing and this is what our Rash Cream and ACTIVE cream prevents.
Eco focus
Looking for ways to reduce our use of plastic, we developed pouches of our SPF50 which use 50% less packaging and are refillable and reusable. Plus, we’ve expanded into zero waste and refill stores with our 5 Litre Pump container of the SPF50 with ready to fill 100ml aluminium bottles which can be filled in store.

We have started working with Enval to provide customers with a way to fully recycle our pouches and tubes. Returning the pouches and tubes to us, we send them off to Enval who use their pioneering process of pyrolysis to melt out the aluminium layer in our pouches (and put it back into the aluminium supply chain) and tuen the plastic into an oil which is then turned into other plastic items. We support the circular economy as much as we can.
